A native of Hong Kong, Tsun-yuet Emmanuel Kwok has appeared as a soloist in Europe, Asia, and the United States. He has performed in over 30 world premieres of contemporary music and made his Carnegie Hall solo debut in June 2023. As a recitalist and soloist, Kwok is frequently invited for solo and chamber recitals in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as solo appearances with orchestras including the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra, The Greater North Texas Youth Orchestra, Mansfield Philharmonic, Flower Mound Symphony Orchestra, Coppell Community Orchestra, Collegium Musicum Hong Kong, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts Academy Orchestra, and Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra. In the 2024-25 season, Kwok's major cello projects include performing the Dvorak Cello Concerto with Johnny Fuller directing the New Life Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Triple Concerto with pianist Eldred Marshall and violinist Seowon Lee, under the baton of Felix Torres with the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra, and hosting a cello choir performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Kwok is an active orchestral cellist and is currently a Dallas Chamber Symphony and McKinney Philharmonic Orchestra member. He also regularly performs with orchestras and ensembles including the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, Plano Symphony Orchestra, Irving Symphony Orchestra, New Texas Sinfonia, and the Texas Cellos. He has previously served as principal cellist of the McKinney Philharmonic Orchestra and as a member of the Hong Kong New Philharmonic, Collegium Musicum Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. Kwok has received awards including 1st prize in the Hong Kong Music Festival and 2nd prize in the National Competition of Asia. In addition to his classical performances, he has collaborated with worship ministries and pop singers in Southeast Asia and has recorded more than ten albums as a solo cellist. He also holds a position at Prime Music Institute as Artist-in-Residence.
Kwok holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Cello at both Nelson University and Tarrant County College. He also served as a cello faculty at the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Young Musicians Program. Kwok is a registered Suzuki cello teacher who has served as full-time faculty at Greenville Suzuki Strings from 2021 to 2023 and the Fort Worth B Sharp Youth Music Program from 2015 to 2020. During his doctoral studies, he was a teaching assistant to the internationally renowned cellist Jesús Castro-Balbi, teaching students ranging from music minors to graduate performance majors. He also served as the assistant director of the TCU Cello Ensemble. Additionally, Kwok has taught as cello faculty at professional music summer institutes including the Texas Cello School, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Youth Program Summer Camp, Texas Institute for Orchestra Studies, Clear Creek Music Festival (OR), TCU Summer Cello Academy, and The Greater North Texas Youth Orchestra Summer Music Intensive. Currently, Kwok is also establishing a private cello studio in Lewisville, TX.
Kwok believes in Authentic Christianity and the philosophy of Authentic Music Performance. As a musician and scholar, Kwok holds memberships in The National Society of Leadership and Success, Pi Kappa Lambda International Music Honor Society, and Golden Key International Honor Society. He is also a regular member of the Mu Phi Epsilon Concert Series.
Kwok completed his Master of Music in cello performance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under Professor Ray Wang, and his Doctor of Musical Arts at Texas Christian University School of Music under the guidance of renowned cellist Jesús Castro-Balbi, majoring in cello performance with a cognate in music theory. He has had the privilege of coaching by cellists Johannes Moser, Lynn Harrell, Steven Isserlis, Vagram Saradjian, Dmitri Atapine, Maja Bogdanovic, and Li-Wei Qin.
